According to a newspaper story from late last autumn, Florida farmers have become intrigued by the prospect of cultivating olive trees. The story mentioned that the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences was operating test plots. There’s even a Florida Olive Council. The writer, Michael Stone of Halifax Media Group, reported that soil, climate and other conditions that make Florida suitable for citrus growth are also appropriate for olives.
